I did it again…

I lost something else.  This time it was the key to my mailbox at my apartment complex.  Yes, I am sure you are thinking, “Don’t you keep your mailbox key on your key chain with all your other keys?”  And the answer would be yes.  So now you are probably wondering how I only lost the one key and not the rest of them.  Well this is how it happened, or at least how I think it happen.

I like most people find it difficult to take keys on and off key rings.  So I decided to add a second ring to my key chain that made it much easier to take my house key off when I go running.  My guess is the mailbox key fell off somewhere and I did not hear it fall.  I know it sounds a little crazy but it has happened before.  Last year the keyless entry to my car fell off and it took me months to find it.  (It had fallen into a crack in my car.)  I should have changed the key ring then but didn’t.

Well I still have not found the key.  I figured I would give it a few days to show up before I went to extreme measures, but couldn’t wait forever since my mail was starting to pile up.  First, I started at the post office to see if they had an extra key and they did not.  I knew it was a long shot but I figured that I would at least try it.  Then, I called my real estate agent to see if the owners had an extra key and no luck there either.  Finally, I had to call the local locksmith to remake the keys to the box.  This was surprisingly not very painful at all (besides the $50 I had to spend).  I called them and gave them the information and later that day picked the keys up.  They even made me a few extra.

I am sure you are all wondering, so here’s what it looked like when I finally got inside….

It just happened that the Fall issue of Harper’s Bazaar decided to come during that week.  (That would be the inch thick magazine in the mailbox)

Garage Sale Bargain

Sometimes the best place to find a bargain is a garage sale.  And the best garage sales can be estate sales.  There is usually more furniture and sellers are looking to get rid of it because they don’t have room to put it in their own house.

On my run this morning, I passed one of these garage sales and decided to stop by once I finished running.  What I found was this really neat buffet table.

As you can see it looks to be priced for $125, but what you cannot see is that the price is marked though and repriced for $75.  Now one of the first rules for garage sales, is that you never pay the marked price.  You always try a get the seller to go lower.  So just as my mom taught me, I asked the lady what was the best price she could sell it for.  And her response…

I can give it to you for $60!

So immediately I texted my mom and she told me I should definitely get it.  After a quick trip to the bank, I returned to the garage sale and loaded up my find.

I gave the buffet a quick cleaning to get the dirt off and then found a place for it in my home.  I placed it in my kitchen behind my table.  I am sure it will get moved around a bit but for right now I think this will be its home.

Of course, I am not going to leave the buffet in it’s current shape.  Eventually I will sand it down and refinish it.

Now for the fun part; figuring out what color(s) to paint it.
